Structural Foundation

Foundation & Floor System

Built From the Ground Up

The floor system carries the building, everything stored inside it, and the daily traffic the shed receives for years to come. The Appalachian Classic uses a three-part structural floor assembly designed for long-term backyard use.

  • 6×6 ground-contact pressure-treated foundation beams
  • 2×6 pressure-treated floor joists, 16″ on center
  • 3/4″ 7-ply pressure-treated plywood floor deck
Why This Matters

Once the Appalachian Classic is completed, much of the floor assembly will never be visible again. Foundation beams, floor-joist size and spacing, and floor decking should be compared before prices are compared.

Structural Wall System

Wall Framing & Sheathing

16″ O.C. Framing · Reinforced Connections

The wall system ties the floor and roof assemblies together and provides the structural backing for the exterior siding. The Appalachian Classic uses closely spaced kiln-dried framing, reinforced top plates, steel roof-to-wall connections, and full wall sheathing as standard construction.

  • 2×4 kiln-dried Spruce wall framing, 16″ on center
  • Double interlocking top plates for added strength
  • Hurricane clips at all rafters
  • 1/2″ wall sheathing for added stability and siding backing
Why This Matters

Wall-stud spacing, continuous sheathing, reinforced top plates, and positive roof-to-wall connections all contribute to a more stable structural shell and provide a solid backing surface for the selected siding system.

Structural Protection

Roof System

Engineered Framing · Plywood Roof Sheathing

The Appalachian Classic uses a traditional low-profile roof design intended to provide a clean appearance and practical backyard scale.

  • Classic low-profile roof profile
  • 2×6 engineered roof trusses
  • 1/2″ exterior-grade plywood roof sheathing
  • 3-tab standard asphalt shingles available in eight colors
Why This Matters

The roof is framed with engineered trusses and sheathed with plywood rather than relying on the roofing material itself to provide structural support.

Exterior Selections

Siding, Colors & Exterior Finish

Five Exterior Siding Choices

The Appalachian Classic can be configured in five exterior siding styles, allowing the building to complement traditional, contemporary, farmhouse, cottage, or natural-wood settings.

  • Five siding styles
  • LP SmartSide Vertical Panel Siding
  • Roseburg DuraTemp Wood Siding
  • LP SmartSide Board & Batten Siding
  • Georgia-Pacific Forest Ridge Vinyl Lap Siding
  • LP SmartSide Lap Siding
What Is Included

Exterior trim and standard finish details are included as part of the completed building, with optional upgrades identified separately.

Everyday Access

Doors & Hardware

Durable Entry · Secure Hardware

The Appalachian Classic includes durable entry components designed for regular backyard use and dependable access to the building throughout the year.

  • Low-maintenance 6-panel fiberglass entry doors
  • Heavy-duty door hardware
  • Keyed door lock
Why This Matters

Durable doors, substantial hardware, and keyed access provide practical daily use while helping protect the contents stored inside the building.

Light & Airflow

Windows & Ventilation

Natural Light · Passive Airflow

Window and ventilation components provide natural light and passive airflow, making the Appalachian Classic more functional than a basic enclosed storage shell.

  • Aluminum-framed single-hung windows
  • Window locks
  • Removable window screens
  • Aluminum screened louver vents for passive ventilation
Why This Matters

Windows provide natural light, while screened louver vents promote passive airflow and help keep insects and debris outside.

Construction Method

Built On Site

Constructed at Your Property

The Appalachian Classic is built on site at its intended location. It is not delivered to your property as a completed building and simply placed in the yard. On-site construction allows the structure to be assembled as a complete building where it will remain.

Structural Protection

30-Year Structural Warranty

Long-Term Structural Protection

Every Appalachian Classic includes Appalachian Sheds 30-Year Structural Warranty. The structural warranty is part of the building—not an optional protection package added after the purchase decision.

Before You Compare Prices

Compare the Building, Not Just the Price

Two sheds with similar dimensions and similar prices can be very different buildings once you examine what is underneath them. Before comparing prices, compare the construction itself.

  • Foundation beam size and material
  • Floor joist size and spacing
  • Floor decking material
  • Wall stud size and spacing
  • Wall sheathing and roof-to-wall connections
  • Roof framing and sheathing
  • Siding choices
  • Door, window, and ventilation components
  • What is standard versus what costs extra
  • Structural warranty coverage

Every answer for the Appalachian Classic is in the specifications table at the top of this section.

Pricing shown is based on selected size and siding type and covers the standard exterior structure only. It does not include interior finishes of any kind. Optional upgrades, interior finish selections, site preparation, delivery, site-specific requirements, custom details, and applicable taxes are not included unless specifically identified in the final written price. See the Options & Upgrades page for complete interior finish pricing.

Exterior Appearance · Five Siding Choices

Choose the Siding That Fits Your Property

The structural building underneath remains the same. Your siding selection determines the exterior character of the Appalachian Classic—from a practical painted-panel finish to a more residential lap profile or a stronger board-and-batten architectural appearance.

Engineered Wood · Vertical Panel

LP SmartSide Vertical Panel Siding

LP SmartSide Vertical Panel Siding gives the Appalachian Classic a clean, straightforward exterior with the durability and consistent appearance of engineered wood. The vertical panel profile keeps the shed visually simple while offering a more finished residential appearance than an economy-grade utility panel.

  • Vertical engineered-wood panel appearance
  • Clean, practical profile suited to traditional backyard storage buildings
  • Painted finish allows the building to coordinate with the home and property
Best Fit Homeowners who want a durable, clean painted-panel exterior with a straightforward Appalachian Classic appearance.

Wood Siding · Vertical Panel

Roseburg DuraTemp Wood Siding

Roseburg DuraTemp Wood Siding provides the familiar vertical-panel character associated with a traditional painted shed while maintaining a clean, finished exterior. Its understated profile works especially well when the goal is dependable storage without adding unnecessary architectural detail.

  • Traditional vertical wood-panel appearance
  • Paint-ready exterior suited to a wide range of shed colors
  • Simple profile that preserves the Classic Series character
Best Fit Buyers who prefer the familiar appearance and natural character of a painted wood-panel shed exterior.

Architectural Vertical Profile

LP SmartSide Board & Batten Siding

LP SmartSide Board & Batten Siding adds stronger vertical shadow lines and a more architectural farmhouse character to the Appalachian Classic. It changes the visual presence of the building without changing the underlying Classic Series structure.

  • Distinctive vertical board-and-batten appearance
  • Deeper shadow lines create greater exterior dimension
  • Well suited to farmhouse, cottage and more architectural backyard settings
Best Fit Properties where the shed should feel more architectural and intentionally coordinated with farmhouse or cottage styling.

Low Maintenance · Residential Lap Profile

Georgia-Pacific Forest Ridge Vinyl Lap Siding

Georgia-Pacific Forest Ridge Vinyl Lap Siding gives the Appalachian Classic a familiar horizontal residential appearance with a low-maintenance exterior. The lap profile is especially effective when the shed is intended to relate visually to a vinyl-sided house, garage or other structure on the property.

  • Horizontal residential lap-siding appearance
  • Low-maintenance exterior finish
  • Strong visual match for many homes and detached garages
Best Fit Homeowners who want the shed to coordinate closely with the horizontal vinyl siding already used on the property.

Engineered Wood · Residential Lap Profile

LP SmartSide Lap Siding

LP SmartSide Lap Siding gives the Appalachian Classic the horizontal lines and refined proportions of residential clapboard while retaining the warmth and texture associated with an engineered-wood exterior. It is a strong choice when the shed should read less like a utility building and more like a coordinated extension of the property.

  • Horizontal engineered-wood lap profile
  • More refined residential character than a basic vertical-panel exterior
  • Works well where the shed should complement the home without using vinyl
Best Fit Homeowners who want a more residential horizontal-siding appearance with the character of an engineered-wood exterior.

Is the Appalachian Classic the Right Building?

The Appalachian Classic is the straightforward foundation of the lineup. It is the right fit when the job is dependable storage, practical access and a clean low-profile building without unnecessary architectural complexity.

The Appalachian Classic is designed around practical backyard use. Its clean roof profile and straightforward proportions make it a strong choice when storage and everyday utility matter more than architectural size or specialty roof features.

It is especially well suited to garden tools, lawn equipment, seasonal items, household overflow and general storage. The building provides substantial construction underneath while allowing the exterior appearance to change significantly through five siding choices.

That flexibility means a Classic can remain visually straightforward with LP SmartSide Vertical Panel or Roseburg DuraTemp, take on stronger farmhouse character with LP SmartSide Board & Batten, or coordinate more closely with residential architecture through Georgia-Pacific Forest Ridge Vinyl Lap or LP SmartSide Lap Siding.

A different shed model becomes worth comparing when the requirement moves beyond straightforward storage and into significantly greater upper interior volume, specialty access, porch-centered architecture or a different roof form.

Compare Models
If upper interior volume is a major priority, compare roof forms before choosing the final shed model.
Very large specialty access
Compare Models
Large-opening requirements may point toward a different overall building configuration.
Porch-centered architecture
Compare Models
Consider whether another architectural model better fits the visual role you want the building to play on the property.
Finished office or studio
Plan Carefully
Electrical, insulation, interior finish, window placement and intended occupancy should be planned as one complete project.
A Useful Rule

Do Not Change Models Just to Add One Useful Feature

A larger window, upgraded door, ramp, electrical package, shelving, loft or other useful option does not automatically make the Appalachian Classic the wrong building. Compare another model when the overall roof form, access needs, interior-volume requirements or architectural objective have changed—not simply because one upgrade makes sense.

Beyond the Price · Planning and Options

You Have the Price. Here Is What Comes Next.

Once the Appalachian Classic size and siding are established, the remaining decisions are about how you will use the building and how it will be positioned and prepared on your property.

Options & Upgrades

Make It Work the Way You Need It To

Doors, windows, ramps, lofts, shelving, workbenches, electrical, insulation and other upgrades should solve an actual use requirement rather than simply add features.

Starting with the standard Appalachian Classic makes it easier to identify the options that improve the way you will use the shed without losing the simplicity that makes the model practical.

Site, Placement & Pad

The Right Building Still Needs the Right Place to Sit

Crew access, building placement, drainage, final elevation, working room around the shed and foundation preparation all need to be considered before construction begins.

Site conditions do not change whether the Appalachian Classic is the right model, but they can affect preparation requirements, access planning and the final written project price.

Appalachian Classic FAQ

The Questions That Usually Come Up About Price

What exactly does the pricing calculator show?
The calculator shows the standard building price for the exact Appalachian Classic size and siding selected. Site conditions, access, placement and requested upgrades are reviewed before the final written project price is confirmed.
Does this price include any interior finishes?
No. The price shown covers the standard exterior structure only — foundation, framing, roofing, siding, exterior doors, and windows. It does not include any interior finishes of any kind: no insulation, no drywall or wall finish, no flooring, no electrical or lighting, no HVAC, no interior trim, and no interior paint. If interior finish work is part of your plan, it is priced separately as an option.
See Options & Upgrades for complete interior finish pricing →
Which siding gives the lowest starting price?
LP SmartSide Vertical Panel Siding has the lowest standard build price at every Appalachian Classic size. Roseburg DuraTemp Wood Siding is the Classic Series standard siding and is priced just above it. Once a building size is selected, the calculator displays the prices for all five siding systems side by side.
How is the Appalachian Classic floor supported?
The standard floor system uses 6×6 ground-contact pressure-treated foundation beams, 2×6 pressure-treated floor joists at 16 inches on center, and 3/4-inch 7-ply pressure-treated plywood flooring.
Is the Appalachian Classic built at my property?
Yes. The Appalachian Classic is built on site at its intended location rather than being delivered as a completed prebuilt structure.
Can I add windows, doors, lofts, electrical or insulation?
Options and upgrades can be reviewed after the standard building size and siding have been selected. Those requested features are then incorporated into the final written project price.
When should I compare another shed model?
Compare another model when the project requires a materially different roof form, substantially more upper interior volume, specialty access, porch-centered architecture or a different overall building character. Do not change models simply because you need one useful upgrade.
What warranty is included with the Appalachian Classic?
Review the structural warranty information shown in the Standard Construction section above together with the final written project documentation.

Additional questions about construction, siding, upgrades, site preparation and project planning can be reviewed before the final build is confirmed.
