Who Builds Your Shed Matters

Edwin Shackelford

Founder & Lead Builder

35 Years of Commercial-Grade Construction.
Now Built in Your Backyard.

Edwin Shackelford founded Appalachian Sheds Inc. after three decades of commercial construction management across the Greater Cincinnati region and beyond — structural work that demanded zero tolerance for shortcuts. That same standard comes to every backyard structure we build. No subcontractors on structural work. No prefab delivery. Every shed is built on your property, by our family crew, using materials we'd put under our own homes.

Built On Your Property

We never deliver a prefab structure. Every shed is framed, sided, and finished on-site by Edwin and his sons — Randall and Travis.

No Subcontractors

Zero subcontracted structural work — ever. The crew that prices your shed is the crew that drives the nails. Accountability doesn't get outsourced.

Radical Pricing Transparency

We'd rather walk you away from the wrong shed than sell you one that doesn't fit your property or your budget. That's not a sales line — it's how we operate.

Construction Standard

What’s Built Into Every Appalachian Barn Shed

This is not barn styling added to a standard storage box. The Appalachian Barn Shed uses the proven geometry of a gambrel roof to create more vertical storage, stronger loft potential, wide equipment access, and the unmistakable barn silhouette that has worked across Appalachian farming communities for generations.

Builder accountability matters: Edwin and his sons build every shed. No subcontractors on structural work. Ever.

Roof & Storage Volume

Classic Gambrel Roof. More Storage in the Same Footprint.

The gambrel roof uses two slopes on each side instead of one. The steeper upper pitch sheds weather efficiently, while the lower pitch creates vertical interior space that a standard gable roof often wastes. The result is a barn shed with stronger loft potential, more cubic storage, and the iconic profile that makes the model instantly recognizable.

Foundation & Floor

6×6 PT Beams. Built for Equipment Loads.

The floor system starts with YellaWood® 6×6 pressure-treated grade beams placed over a 10-mil moisture barrier. 2×6 pressure-treated floor joists are set 16″ on center with a double center beam, and the subfloor is 3/4″ 7-ply pressure-treated plywood. Built for riding mowers, ATVs, snowblowers, tools, seasonal storage, and serious property-maintenance equipment. No OSB. Ever.

Walls & Structure

Reinforced Gambrel Trusses. Loft-Ready Framing.

Gambrel rooflines require more careful engineering than simple gable roofs. Reinforced gambrel trusses, proper roof-to-wall connections, hurricane ties, engineered connectors, and loft-ready framing help the Barn Shed handle the different stress patterns created by the dual-pitch roof while keeping the structure square, solid, and dependable.

Siding & Exterior

LP SmartSide Durability with True Barn Character.

LP SmartSide engineered wood siding gives the Barn Shed authentic wood-grain texture with modern resistance to rot, termites, fungal decay, and moisture. Contrasting trim defines the gambrel profile, highlights the barn silhouette, and gives the building enough visual character for both rural properties and established suburban neighborhoods.

Doors, Hardware & Access

Full-Width X-Braced Barn Doors.

Double X-braced barn doors create the wide access equipment owners need for riding mowers, ATVs, carts, large tools, and bulky seasonal items. Heavy-duty black iron hardware, barn-style strap hinges, and secure latches give the doors authentic presence while supporting smooth daily use over time.

Warranty

30-Year Structural. 50-Year Siding.

Every build includes a 30-year Appalachian Sheds Inc. structural warranty, along with applicable manufacturer warranties for siding, roofing, windows, doors, and related components. Exterior wood surfaces must be sealed, painted, stained, or clear-coated within 30 days to maintain warranty protection and preserve the barn profile over time.

Best next step: evaluate the Appalachian Barn Shed as a vertical storage and equipment-access system — not just a barn-looking shed. The strongest result comes from planning the size, loft option, door orientation, ramp approach, equipment clearance, and site placement together.
